Geriatrics & Gerontology Montebello CA

Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute specialize in geriatric care. Dr. Rafi’s extensive training includes a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, along with a specialized fellowship in advanced geriatrics. His expertise revolves around immune function enhancement and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging.

While our geriatric patients are typically over 65 years old, it’s important to note that being considered geriatric is not solely defined by age. You might be 70 years old, working full-time, and in excellent health, yet not be categorized as geriatric. Conversely, you could be 60 years old, dealing with multiple comorbidities, taking 30 different medications, and indeed be a geriatric patient. The assessment takes into account your functional capabilities both at home and in your broader environment, along with the presence and nature of comorbidities and the complexity of your medical profile.

With each new patient, we begin with a comprehensive evaluation. This typically involves a medication review to understand the existing treatment regimen and a review of recent lab results. Additional testing is ordered as needed to ensure a complete understanding of your unique medical needs and to develop a personalized care plan. We are committed to providing high-quality, individualized care to enhance the well-being of our geriatric patients. If you or a loved one is seeking specialized geriatric care, we are here to assist on the path toward improved health and quality of life.

About-Asif

What you can expect on your first visit:

Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
