Geriatrics & Gerontology Bell CA
Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute specialize in caring for older patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, along with a specialized program in advanced geriatrics. His expertise is in immune function, non-cosmetic anti-aging, and academic research.
Our older patients are usually 65 and above, but age alone doesn’t define being geriatric. You could be 70, working full-time, in great health, and not considered geriatric. Conversely, a 60-year-old with multiple health issues and several medications might be classified as geriatric. We assess your functionality both at home and outside, your existing health conditions, and the complexity of your medical history.
With each new patient, we start fresh. Our standard procedure involves reviewing their medications and recent lab results, and if necessary, we order additional tests. We aim to keep our communication straightforward and honest.

What you can expect on your first visit:
Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
