GERIATRICS & GERONTOLOGY BEVERLY HILLS CA

Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute specialize in the care of older patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, as well as a specialized program in advanced geriatrics. His research primarily focused on enhancing immune function and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging techniques.

Our older patients are typically aged over 65, but it’s important to note that being categorized as geriatric isn’t solely determined by age. For instance, a 70-year-old who works five days a week and enjoys robust health may not be considered geriatric, while a 60-year-old managing multiple comorbidities and taking 30 medications may be classified as a geriatric patient. We assess their functional abilities both at home and in other settings, consider their coexisting health conditions, and evaluate the complexity of their medical history.

With each new patient, we embark on a comprehensive evaluation. This typically involves a review of their medications and recent lab results, followed by any necessary additional tests.

What you can expect on your first visit:

Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
