Dr. Rafi and his team, based at the Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Institute, specialize in the care of elderly patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, followed by a specialized program in advanced geriatrics, with a primary focus on enhancing immune function and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging techniques.
Our elderly patients typically fall into the age group of 65 and above, although it’s important to note that geriatric status isn’t solely determined by age. You could be a vibrant and active 70-year-old, working full-time and enjoying excellent health, without being classified as geriatric. Conversely, a 60-year-old individual with multiple underlying health conditions, taking a substantial number of medications, might fall into the geriatric category. It all comes down to your functional abilities both at home and outside, the presence of any comorbidities, and the complexity of your medical history.
Each new patient’s journey begins from square one. Our approach typically commences with a thorough medication review and an examination of recent laboratory results. Subsequently, we may order additional tests as necessary.
