Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute have expertise in the treatment of elderly patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, as well as a specialized fellowship in advanced geriatrics, with a focus on improving immune function, non-cosmetic anti-aging, and academic research.
Our elderly patients are typically aged 65 and above, although it’s essential to understand that being considered geriatric isn’t solely determined by age. For instance, a 70-year-old who works full-time, enjoys excellent health, and remains active may not fall into the geriatric category. Conversely, a 60-year-old with multiple underlying health conditions, taking a significant number of medications, might fit the geriatric profile. Your status is determined by your functionality both at home and in your daily life, the presence of any additional health issues, and the complexity of your medical history.
With each new patient, we start the process anew. It usually begins with a thorough medication assessment and a review of their recent laboratory results. Subsequently, we may recommend further tests as necessary.
