Claremont CA Allergy Testing, Immunologist & Sinus Doctor

GERIATRICS & GERONTOLOGY CLAREMONT CA

Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute specialize in caring for older patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, along with a specialized program in advanced geriatric medicine. His primary focus was on enhancing immune function and non-cosmetic anti-aging with an academic perspective.

Our elderly patients are typically 65 and above, but it’s essential to understand that age alone does not define geriatric status. For instance, you could be 70 years old, maintaining a full workweek, and in excellent health, and still not be considered geriatric. On the other hand, you could be 60 years old, managing multiple health conditions and taking several medications, and fall into the geriatric category. We assess your functional capacity at home and outside, consider your existing health conditions, and evaluate the complexity of your medical history.

With each new patient, we start from the beginning. We usually initiate the process with a medication review and an analysis of recent lab results. Additional tests are ordered as required.

What you can expect on your first visit:

Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
