GERIATRICS & GERONTOLOGY HUNTINGTON PARK CA

Dr. Rafi and his dedicated team at the Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Institute specialize in the care of elderly patients. Dr. Rafi’s extensive qualifications include completing a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, along with a specialized fellowship in advanced geriatrics. His expertise centers on enhancing immune function and pursuing non-cosmetic anti-aging approaches.

Our elderly patients are typically individuals aged 65 and above. However, it’s important to note that being considered geriatric is not solely determined by age. You could be a vigorous 70-year-old, working full-time, and not fall into the geriatric category. Conversely, you might be 60 years old, managing multiple comorbidities, on a regimen of 30 medications, and be classified as a geriatric patient. The key considerations involve your functional capabilities both at home and outside, the presence of comorbid conditions, and the complexity of your medical history.

With each new patient we encounter, we embark on a comprehensive journey. Our approach typically commences with a thorough medication review and an analysis of recent laboratory results. Subsequently, we will conduct any necessary additional tests based on the individual’s specific needs.

What you can expect on your first visit:

Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
