Inglewood CA Allergy Testing, Immunologist & Sinus Doctor

GERIATRICS & GERONTOLOGY INGLEWOOD CA

Dr. Rafi and his dedicated team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute have a specialization in caring for geriatric patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, along with a unique advanced geriatrics fellowship. His research primarily focused on enhancing immune function and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging strategies.

Typically, our geriatric patients are individuals aged 65 and older. However, it’s vital to understand that being classified as geriatric is not solely determined by age. You might be an active 70-year-old, working a full five days a week, enjoying excellent health, and still not fall under the geriatric category. Conversely, a 60-year-old with multiple comorbidities, managing a regimen of 30 medications, may indeed be considered a geriatric patient. Your classification depends on factors such as your functional capabilities at home and in other settings, the presence of comorbid conditions, and the complexity of your medical profile.

With each new patient, we initiate a comprehensive assessment. Our approach typically begins with a thorough medication review and an analysis of their recent laboratory results. As necessary, we proceed with additional tests to ensure a comprehensive understanding of their health.

What you can expect on your first visit:

Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
