Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute specialize in providing care to geriatric patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, as well as a specialized fellowship in advanced geriatrics, with a specific focus on immune function enhancement and non-cosmetic academic anti-aging techniques.
Our geriatric patients are typically aged 65 and older, but it’s essential to understand that being classified as geriatric isn’t solely based on age. For instance, a 70-year-old individual who works full-time, maintains excellent health, may not fall into the geriatric category. Conversely, a 60-year-old with multiple comorbidities, managing a regimen of 30 medications, could indeed be considered a geriatric patient. What truly matters is your functional status, both within your home and outside of it, the presence of comorbid conditions, and the complexity of your medical history.
With every new patient, we commence the assessment from scratch. Our typical procedure initiates with a comprehensive medication review and an examination of their recent laboratory results. We then proceed to conduct additional tests as necessary to ensure a thorough understanding of their medical requirements.
