Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute have expertise in the treatment of geriatric patients. Dr. Rafi completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, along with a specialized fellowship in advanced geriatrics. His research primarily focused on enhancing immune function and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging methods.
Our geriatric patients are typically aged 65 and above, but it’s important to note that being considered geriatric is not solely determined by age. For instance, a 70-year-old person who works five days a week, enjoys excellent health, might not fit the geriatric category. On the other hand, a 60-year-old with multiple comorbidities, managing a regimen of 30 medications, could be classified as a geriatric patient. It all depends on your functional status both at home and in other environments, the presence of comorbid conditions, and the complexity of your medical history.
With every new patient, we initiate the evaluation from the beginning. Our usual approach begins with a medication review and an examination of their recent laboratory results. Subsequently, we order additional tests as necessary to ensure a comprehensive understanding of their medical needs.
