GERIATRICS & GERONTOLOGY LAWNDALE CA

Dr. Rafi and his dedicated team at the Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Institute specialize in the expert care of geriatric patients. Dr. Rafi has completed a prestigious one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, in addition to a specialized fellowship in advanced geriatrics. His focus is on enhancing immune function and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging.

While our geriatric patients are typically aged over 65, we understand that being geriatric isn’t solely defined by age. You could be 70 years old, actively working five days a week, and enjoy excellent health without fitting the geriatric category. Conversely, a 60-year-old with multiple comorbidities and taking 30 medications could be considered a geriatric patient. We evaluate your functional capabilities at home and outside, the comorbidities you may be managing, and the complexity of your medical profile.

With each new patient, our approach is thorough and personalized. We commence with a comprehensive review of medications and recent lab results. Subsequently, we conduct additional testing as required to ensure the highest quality of care.

What you can expect on your first visit:

Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
