Dr. Rafi and his dedicated team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute specialize in the care of geriatric patients. Dr. Rafi’s extensive training includes a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, complemented by a special fellowship in advanced geriatrics. His particular focus revolves around immune function enhancement and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging.
It’s important to note that geriatric status isn’t solely determined by age. While many of our geriatric patients are typically over 65, age alone does not dictate whether one is considered geriatric. You could be 70 years old, actively working five days a week, and in excellent health, yet not be classified as geriatric. Conversely, you might be 60 years old, dealing with multiple comorbidities and taking 30 different medications, making you a geriatric patient.
The assessment of geriatric status extends beyond age, taking into account one’s functional abilities both within and outside their home, as well as the presence and nature of comorbidities and the complexity of their overall medical profile.
With each new patient, we take a thorough approach that begins from square one. This typically involves a comprehensive review of their medications and an evaluation of their recent laboratory results. We then order additional tests as necessary to gain a comprehensive understanding of their unique medical needs and to develop a personalized care plan.
At the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute, we are committed to delivering high-quality, individualized care for our geriatric patients. Our goal is to address their specific needs and enhance their overall well-being. Whether you or a loved one is seeking specialized care in the field of geriatrics, we are here to guide you towards improved health and a better quality of life.
