Dr. Rafi holds an extensive background, having completed a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, along with a special fellowship in advanced geriatrics. While our geriatric patients are often over the age of 65, it’s important to note that being categorized as geriatric isn’t solely determined by age. You could be 70 years old, working full-time, and in excellent health, yet not be considered geriatric. Conversely, someone who is 60 years old, managing multiple comorbidities, and taking numerous medications may indeed be classified as a geriatric patient. The assessment takes into account functional abilities both at home and in broader settings, the presence and nature of comorbidities, and the complexity of one’s overall medical profile.

With each new geriatric patient, we take a comprehensive approach. We initiate the process with a medication review, thoroughly assessing their current treatment regimen. Additionally, we perform a comprehensive review of recent lab results to gain insights into their current health status. As needed, we order further tests and assessments to ensure a well-rounded understanding of their unique medical needs and to develop a personalized care plan.
