Geriatrics & Gerontology West Hollywood CA

Dr. Rafi and his team at the Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Institute specialize in the care of geriatric patients. Dr. Rafi’s expertise is underscored by his completion of a one-year fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UCLA, followed by a specialized advanced geriatrics fellowship. His research primarily revolves around immune function enhancement and academic non-cosmetic anti-aging measures.

Although our geriatric patients are commonly aged over 65, it’s essential to recognize that geriatric status isn’t solely determined by age. For instance, a 70-year-old individual who works full-time, maintains excellent health, and leads an active life may not be categorized as geriatric. Conversely, a 60-year-old with multiple comorbidities, reliant on 30 medications, would fit the geriatric patient profile.

To tailor our care to your specific needs, we evaluate your functional abilities within and outside your home and delve into your medical history, including comorbidities, to understand the intricacies of your health profile.

With each new patient, we embark on a fresh journey. Typically, our approach commences with a comprehensive medication review and a thorough examination of recent lab results. Additional testing is ordered as necessary, ensuring a personalized and thorough approach to your healthcare.

What you can expect on your first visit:

Your first visit to Dr. Rafi is very comprehensive. We take your history to learn all aspects of your condition and perform an initial examination. Most likely, we will perform skin testing during this visit. It might be skin testing for classic allergies or patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis. We also test for exhaled nitric oxide (called FeNO) to determine the level of allergic inflammation in your lungs. We offer spirometry for assessment of lung function. We can perform nasal endoscopy with a flexible fiber optic endoscopy to assess for nasalpolyps, deviated septum, and candidiasis.
